    To me this song speaks deeper than many people give it credit for. To me it means that something so precious to you was lost or taken from you, and you got the chance of a lifetime to get it back. Whether its your family member you had a fight with or the person you're in love with. This song is pure beauty and I wouldn't change anything about it. I love it.

    For me, this song has always been about my. Well now my ex. When we first started dating almost a year and a half ago I had her listen to this song. About 11 or 12 months into it I had her listen to it again, but with me there, and I explained how each line in it related to how I felt about her. I told her all about how I thought I'd do anything for her, and how she meant the world to me, and about how I love her. I told her that if she only knew the way I felt about her, the way I saw her, the way she gave me something to get out of bed in the morning for, that she'd understand why I love her. Now that she's gone, this song means a whole new thing fore. I lost her because she started having feelings for someone else, but I told her that if she realized he wasn't worth losing me for, that I'd be there for her. If she only knew that I still love her, with my whole damn heart, and that I just can't let her go. I just hope she does somehow know, and that she'll come back.

    Brent has previously suffered with an addiction to drugs such as cocaine and oxycontin, but has now been sober since 2008. He credits the birth of his son, lyric, with this turn around, stating that he "saved me from my vanity. " he wrote a song called "if you only knew" about his then "lady" or mother of his child. Brent says he would never write a love song, but then again never really had something to write about. He often discusses this song in his concerts.

    A man doesn't know how to treat his girl. This song means a lot to me because my boyfriend cheated on my once, and I took all the letters he wrote me and threw them at him in the middle of our school hallway. He was embarrassed, but it provoked him to think, and now he sings me this song whenever we get in a fight, because I know he loves me, it's just that boys are not always the smartest.

    I'm still in love with the one who's all wrong for me. I still lay awake and think about him. Other people think I'm crazy and just desperate for someone, but it's been ten months and I still cry about him. Even if he only knew how much I really do love him, I wonder if he would bring me back to life. I don't regret any days, any nights that we shared.

    I agree with all of yall, my girl got put in prison, and we write eachother at least 2 to 3 times a week, It always get my attention when I hear a beautiful song like this n when the circumstances n the situation are almost the same, If she only knew how much I miss her n how my heart hurts when I hear this song. But like a dumbass, I play almost everyday!. Along with Seether n Amy Lee_broken. Peace out yall.

    Last winter, when I first downloaded this cd on my Ipod, it was a horrible time for me. I went through the most devistating break up of my life. And I couldn't even get the words out to express what the pain was like, I too found myself awake every night at 4, wanting to die. I have been a lyracist my entire life and this absolutely hit the nail on the head, I will forever think of him when I hear this song. Only now I turn it up and smile instead of breaking down. Music is the most beautiful communicator in all of mankind. We can bring people together, tear them apart or help everybody to know that they are not alone. This is a beautiful song I am sure that it has helped more people than me and I am very grateful that it helped me thru. Peace.

    Hmmm - well after reading the link that mevans14843 shared, I now have a whole different thought on what this song means. See my ex b/f sent me a text that said "if you only knew" - Shinedown in it. Which lead me to this site. I thought it meant that he will always love me but he has moved on. But if Brent from Shinedown wrote this for his g/f who ended up having his child, I either think A. My ex still loves me or B. He wasn't really paying attention to the lyrics of this song when he txt me or C. It's open for interpretation (just as most things are) : o).

    This song is about someone who lost the one person that means the most to them in the world. At one point it says I'd sacrifice my beating heart before I lose you I still hold onto the letters you returned I swear I've lived and learned' which I think means that this person has learned from what they have done to make his love leave and that they would give anything to bewith then again. I really agree with this song because I am in a similarsitiation and girl I love is one of my best friends and going out with another person but I cantget over her.

    Funny thing is.... this song is about the birth of Brent's son and being away from him when he and his mother split up.

    If it works better for you to have it be about a relationship, I'm sure they expected that response, just understand that's not what the song is about.

    This song is about a man who still needs his ex I'm that way with my ex Ashley I've sang this song the line "the only thng I believe in is you" is what I've told her 10,000 over but the other line is "it's 4:03 and I can't sleep with out you next to me I toss and turn like the sea" I've told her more than 10,000 times.

    I expected to see some improvements in my love life after I contacted watchcraftpowerfulspellsolutions@w. Cn and asked him to send out a spell to the universe for me, but I didn't expect a life-changing experience, that's for sure! Still, though, that's what I got! I'm not only in love, I'm going to be moving to my soon-to-be-fiance's state next month!     I recently saw a testimony about a spell caster of some sort in a blog I visit for relationship and dating counseling problems because I have been having serious issues with my boyfriend and we had been dating for six months, he just suddenly changed, he was returning my calls, he started cheating, he was hurting me in so many ways I never thought possible and I just thought I should try it maybe out of desperation of some sort. And I contacted them. At first everything felt dreamy and unbelievable, their consultations and solution was a little bit easy and strange and I was scared a little cos I heard read and heard lots of stories of fake spell casters, scams and I never really believed in magic. I played along with a little hope and faith and I was sent some few stuffs after everything and it worked like a miracle, everything went to a while new direction, it was and is amazing…i guess it was all good faith that made me readthat particular post that faithful day.     Loving someone so much that you would do anything and sacrifice anything for them. You can't stand not being with them, even when you wake up in the middle of the night. Even though they maybe have moved on or are not with you any more, those feelings don't change. Sometimes they never change. When those feelings never change, it shows how much they meant to you and how much they still do.

    To those of you that are saying "this was me and my ex's song... " remember the line "you help me live and learn"! If this is the way you feel about someone, go get them back! Also, if you are just sitting around waiting for your guy to make some significant move. Sometimes I think guys just honestly don't understand that. He's probably got so many things running through his head about how he doesn't deserve you, how he let you down so badly that you "need to be set free". If you love someone and want to be with them go get them. Life is too short to wait around waiting for someone else to make a move.

    Who cares what it was written for? That's one of the greatest things about music, its always up for interpertation. The beatles taught us that. Listen to the song come together and try and figure out what was going through john lennons head when he wrote it, I double dog dare you. The bottom line is, its a great song with great lyrics that mean different things to different people, but I think a lot of people will agree that somehow, whatever the way, however interperted, its a song that touches the heart.
