Georgie has been a "tom-boy" all her life and likes it. She likes not having to worry about her appearance, not having to put on make-up, wear frilly dresses and worry about ruining her nice clothes. She doesn't want to spend an hour putting rollers in her hair. She doesn't want to have to sleep on the rollers, poof her hair after removing said rollers, and then coat it with a can of stiffening hairspray that makes her feel false and pretensive. Not like herself. Georgie is practical, and fun-loving. She doesn't want to be tied down by frilly girl stuff. She wants to be real.
She would also like to have a boyfriend, but the boys don't pay any attention to her. It's not that she's not very pretty, she is in fact beautiful, but the boys don't notice this because they brush past her so quickly. She's hidden behind baggy old jeans that are too big for her, worn out keds, and a mass of frizzy hair.
All georgie needs is a little help from a friend. Another girl who can show her easy, yet feminine ways to dress and bring out her true personality at the same time, her own style. She wouldn't have to wear a lot of make-up. Some mascara, a little blush maybe, and some lip gloss would be just enough to bring out her natural beauty.
She also needs a friend who is faithful enough, strong enough to tell her that she needs this change. Thus the lyrics 'wake up georgie girl'.
