Rihanna – Disturbia lyrics
What's wrong with me?
Why do I feel like this?
I'm going crazy now

No more gas, in the red, can't even get it started
Nothing heard, nothing said, can't even speak about it
On my life, on my head, don't wanna think about it
Feels like I'm going insane, yeah

It's a thief in the night to come and grab you
It can creep up inside you and consume you
A disease of the mind, it can control you
It's too close for comfort

Put on your brake lights, you're in the city of wonder
Ain't gon' play nice, watch out you might just go under
Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Your mind's in disturbia, it's like the darkness is light
Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight?
Disturbia, ain't used to what you like
Disturbia, disturbia

Faded pictures on the wall, it's like they talking to me
Disconnecting, no one calls, the phone don't even ring
I gotta get out or figure this shit out
It's too close for comfort, oh

It's a thief in the night to come and grab you
It can creep up inside you and consume you
A disease of the mind it can control you
I feel like a monster, oh

Put on your pretty lies, you're in the city of wonder
Ain't gon' play nice, watch out you might just go under
Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Your mind's in disturbia, it's like the darkness is light
Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight?
Disturbia, ain't used to what you like
Disturbia, disturbia, disturbia

Release me from this curse I'm in
Trying to maintain but I'm struggling
If you can't go-o-o
I think I'm gonna ah, ah, ah, ah

Put on your pretty lies, you're in the city of wonder
Ain't gon' play nice, watch out you might just go under
Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Disturbia, it's like the darkness is light
Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight?
Disturbia, ain't used to what you like
Disturbia, disturbia

Well, not that I'm necessarily disagreeing with the whole drug assessment thing, but I have another possible scenario. I know at one point during my life after my father died, I was dealing with very deep grief and depression issues, and felt as though I was losing my sanity at times, and how alluring falling into that darkness of insanity really was. So, possibly depression, grief, or suicidal thinking/beginnings of insanity, or a combination of these could be the meaning of this song. I can so easily see this song about my own past struggles. Just my two cents.

This is a song about a girl who has insanity problems, probably caused by drugs. She's going mad and this "Disturbia" just came out of her head, a place/disease where she can't escape out of whatever she does. There are a lot of questions she can't find the answers and makes her drown in confusion.
This song is so amazing. Whoever wrote it was a genius and it was even better 'coz it's Rihanna who's singing it. This song is perfectly written, sung, and played. The tune makes a scary appeal to the listeners and still it makes you wanna party.

You know I actually agree with what you are saying Crazy_munkey20, those are very good ideas for what the song could mean. Everyone has different ideas of what they think it means. So who really knows who is right? Plus it's not like a competion it's not like oh you are wrong I am right etc, it's about liking the song and giving your feedback on it. That is it, and it's as simple as addition lol.

In my opinion, this song means that someone had a lot of problems and they couldn't handle it anymore. They let it all out by going crazy. I get that this song is confusing but really isn't you have to read between the lines. Is that she trying to say that going crazy isn't going to solve anything. I know this because I went through a lot and I went crazy. The reason why I went crazy because I lost mind in everything that was happening.

I know this is less like an interpretation of the lyrics and more like my personal experiences in relation to this song, but the lyrics really connected with me and reminded me of the way I felt when I was battling myself while struggling with gender dysphoria as a young teenager. The lines "Nothing heard, nothing said, can't even speak about it/On my life, on my head, don't wanna think about it" as well as the second verse and pre-chorus resonate with me in that I felt like a freak because of the way I was feeling, as well as the way my mind obsessed over it and let it control my daily life and make existing feel like a chore, and I was so ashamed and embarrassed of it to seek mental help or even just the support from family when I began to consider self harm and suicide. The chorus connects the most to my dysphoria itself, in that the psychological damage it brought me impacted my thoughts in such a negative way that I felt trapped and disoriented, unsure of who I even was. This song of course wasn't written about these kinds of experiences, but the things I and many others have gone through whilw struggling with denial and acceptance, as well as self_-discovery, can be compared to the feelings evoked in this song.

This song is about selling your soul to the devil. How the devil takes control over you. If you put that in context all lyrics are clear. 'Be wise' She is warning other musicians do not sell your soul cause its not worth it. 'City of Light' 'I feel like a monster' and more....

The music video illustrates a character who is suffering from drug addiction.
For example, the lyrics "no more gas, in the red" is a metaphor; the character (played by rihanna) is just coming off the "high" from the drug (heroin), and she uses her body as a "vehicle" for the heroin to go through. The character then waits for the drug dealer to deliver the heroin to her ("nothing heard, nothing said, can't even speak about it").
At the same time, the character is experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations (i. E. Playing ascending notes on the piano but hearing descending notes instead, "sharing intimacy" with a dead wolf and a doll instead of people, etc.).
The character realizes that many people have been caught in the web of drug addiction (i. E. The zombie dancers). She tries to maintain her sense of self, but she struggles with it (as mentioned in the lyrics).
In the end, the song is a warning to the audience to stay away from drugs.

I agree with l4diim3cc4 disturbia is about abuse. (be careful of what you get yourself into because once you go through with it there is no turning back" your mind's in disturbia, it's like the darkness is the light.) It so strange how abuse changes ur thoughts about life and love. She's not being destructive abuse is destructive. She is working out her issues and she has the perfect way to work thru it music. I'm sorry she had to go thru it and I too hope that her songs become lighter again in her time. It nice to be able to relate to her and those unheathy thoughts but not to get caught up and keep them alive in us.

Sry jobro, I gess I just didn't get the meaning of ur lyrics, sry bout dat! Really sry! And kit14 the song is bout, like, well, someone goin crazy and they are like, saying how it was that they went crazy like someone crawling up in you and they want to stop being crazy, but its like that person in you don't want you stop being that way and you just can't stop acting like that, like ur hallucinating and thinkin stuff is happing when it really isn't, and like things like pictures are alive and talking to you, well that is what I think the songs mean, idk, I just think that is what it means, I might be wrong but that is what I think, if anyone else thinks it means anything different please tell me or kit14.

Two years ago, when I found about rihanna and her initiation I was sooo disappointed I stopped listening to her songs, but now. It is clear, this is a warning to young people. She cannot get out without being killed "on her life" and she warns us by saying "so if you must falter be wise". This reminds of young goodman brown when he says his faith (allegory) kept him. We must pray for rihanna because she and other women have fallen prey to the mind control (monarch mind control) as well as the demonic occult organizations in the music & film industry. I hope that she can find a way out. God bless her and protect her from those around her and herself. Amen!

In my opinion, rihanna has been called by something or someone and its dangerously silent that's why she says iit comes like a thief in the night but this thing is evil and you have a certain thing. Something of great value in order for it to come to you and it makes you family.
Its illuminati people very obvious! Take time to read other song lyrics of rihanna, and jay-z.

This song has a very deep meaning and I enjoyed reading people's interpretations of Disturbia. For me, it's totally about mental breakdown, thus, leading to cofusion and ultimately, insanity. Schizophrenia is also implied in some of the lines. She hears voices in her head but she feels too tired/unenthusiastic to seek help. She once embraced life and considered herself "the hope", but something hit her and now her mind's in a different state. She seeks help, even naming her own twisted world as "Disturbia" (disturb + suburbia); a world where the insane and mentally depraved gather. She warns us to "put on our breaklights" as she might hurt us and won't even try to be nice. She loses hope and grows too confused to even think and refers to the unknown darkness as her only salvation. She cuts down social interaction and locks herself in a room, talking to her pictures. She doesn't want us to leave, because she feels like her dolor and anguish would be twice as hard to fight. She remains tame but ultimately succumbs to the darkness. So she asks whether she is scaring us with all these disturbed thoughts or not.

Okay when I first heard this song I was like #1 Hit Single! Then I heard about the video and was like awww it can't be that bad. I was dead wrong! Not that the video is horrible, its horrific! I saw like less than 1 second of the video on itunes and I was like aaahhh! Scary woman in cage with blue no pupil eyes staring at me! Aaahhh! Scary!
I would never let my 7 year old brother watch it till he was 13. Put I like the rawness of it. Rihanna is my homegirl!

Listening to the song, or reading the lyrics confuses me more than anything, sure it sounds like Rihanna has lost her mind and all, but I really can't find anything else. When I look at the video, if she thought about the video while composing the song, I think it all gets clearer.
I see her in three roles: The damned evil queen, the prisoner and the frenzy woman. I believe that in this song she's the queen and does whatever she wants and all, but that world, everything is so twisted that whe is uncomfortable with this position, whe'd like to get away but chains keeps her from being able to do such a thing and that makes her madder than the world in which she is.
In her head, she struggles to exit the place, but can't find any way, she is damned to live in this madness for ever, t'ill she dies.
