Phillip Phillips – Home lyrics
Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road

And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you're not alone
Cause I'm going to make this place your home

Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you're not alone
Cause I'm going to make this place your home

Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you're not alone
Cause I'm going to make this place your home

Home is the deepest interior place where the spirit meets the flesh. A place only god himself can enter in. In settling down and abandoning our total selves to him, it is only then that he can truly possess and mold us into what we were created for. The total giving of self, fear, anxieties gives us the opportunity to show him how much we are willing to trust, so that he can then replace the empty cave that bears anguish, betrayal, deception and hurts and turn it into a place where he alone dwells. In abandoning all of our demons it creates a place for our "papa" to reside, our true home, heaven on earth. For wherever he is, that's where our true home is.

The song is about adjusting to a new place. You may feel alone or overwhelmed (fame for phillip, war zone for soldiers, two people in love moving to a new place, a person starting a new life all by his/herself) but there will always be someone (a loved one) or something (music!) to comfort you :) great song- I feel like he is singing this to me himself, and that this song will always be there for me.

Songs of today are like poetry and it is what you see into the lyrics. To me it is a reaching out to those who suffer from war related PTSD. When you reach out, there is always someone there to help you. Ask and you will receive, seek and you shall find.

Phillip said this wasn't the sort of song he would write, so even he was interpreting its meaning. However, his performance(s), both in the finale and after winning, show that the song had a profound affect on him. The lyrics certainly appear to have a religious theme on the surface, but back to his performance, it was obvious that he felt an even deeper connection. If he is a true christian, which I hope he is, then just maybe the message of the lyrics to phillip are that christ was with him this far, and will continue to be with him as he goes down the unfamiliar road of -life". Wouldn't that be great if everyone understood this and believed.

To me, this song is about learning to feel ‘ok’ with being thrown into a new emotionally scary place in life… not worry about feeling alone and lost because there will always be someone or something.. maybe both on this plain and on a spiritual plain .. that will guide you and comfort you … make you feel safe .. even as you are forced down an unknown new path in life. You will once again feel you are ‘home’. When I lost my dear father .. I was terrified .. I didn’t know how I could possibly figure out how to maneuver through life again.. or feel happy or safe again ..without him… then I heard this and realized he’s always here in heart to guide me… and he assured me there will also always be others to help pick me up.. he will help me feel at ‘home’ once again.

I hear spiritual truths and encouragement in so called "secular" music much more than in religious music.
To me, this song says to believe and trust Yahweh to take me "there" where I need to be, and to guide us into salvation. God chose to use a young mans song to comfort a lot of hurting souls, young and old. He comforts me when I hear this and other "secular sings"; sound of silence, people get ready and all along the watchtower. I hear little truth from the religious leaders or preachers of our day, mostly oppression. Not that they can't provide spiritual truth at times, but more often they cannot because they don't understand what they preach. I think that will change soon.
