He's not an author rewriting his script. He's a man wanting to rewrite his life, he's a father who had a breakdown, no one wants to hear that, and he does really want to share that, so he writes that sad parts to be more glamorous and attractive to man, and the people he tells his life story to, and he chooses to leave those parts out, he constantly prays to his father, who is god, "help me, help me... ", then realizes god was always been there helping him.

I had a friend that went to vietnam and came back an alcoholic. Couldn't get a decent job. Married and had a son that he lost contact with. Rich claimed he was a colonel in special forces and went all over the world as a sniper and pilot. I can't prove it, but maybe he rewrote his life to be the way he hoped. He worked pumping gas for a few months. He died of cancer a few years ago - not even 60 years old - never made up with son.
