It has been years since I heard this song but today it took a greater meaning. It reminded me of my life in the 80's seeking success but feeling empty. I was disappointment with religion that was all about works and my good behavior. No matter how hard I tried I could never feel "right with God." I had problems with serious childhood memories. I was ready to give it all up but God play a joke on me. I met the man that would become my husband. We were from different religions and he would ask me questions about my beliefs. I would say "read your Bible." He suggested that we would go to church.(I no longer attended). I expected to go to his, but he said , "Look in the yellow pages". I picked one out. We attended the church and God caught my heart. I discovered God's grace. God started teaching me that He loves me no matter what. My good actions were to be a sign of thanks not a joke upon myself. My friend gave his heart to Jesus, was baptized and I saw the passion of loving God. It was impossible not to see the joy he had. He had been a runner and told me how he was never satisfied with his time. He would win a race, but he would say, "Next time I must be faster." He broke a toe before going to the nationals so his running season was over. He said that it was not until He met Jesus that he felt no longer the need to be better "next time." Today I heard that song, and began to cry with gratitude. God rescued me and my husband. God took us from religion into a relationship with God and we discovered grace.
