Florence + The Machine – Cosmic Love lyrics
A fallen star,
Fell from your heart,
And landed in my eyes,

I screamed aloud,
As it tore through them,
And now it's left me blind,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark,

No dawn, no day,
I'm always in this twilight,
In the shadow of your heart,

And in the dark,
I can hear your heartbeat, I try to find the sound,
But then it stopped,
And I was in the darkness,
So darkness I became,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark,

No dawn, No day,
I'm always in this twlight,
In the shadow of your heart,

Ooooh (x8)

I took the stars from my eyes,
And then I made a map,
I knew that some how,
I could find my way back,

Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too,
So I stayed in the darkness with you,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark,

No dawn, no day,
I'm always in the twilight,
In the shadow of your heart,

The stars, the moon,
They have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark, (you left me in the dark)

No dawn, no day,
I'm always in this twlight,
In the shadow of your heart,

Ooooh (x8)

This is my favorite Song By Florence + The Machine, it is the only piece of music that has ever touched me so deeply, it brought a tear to my eye. Not only does it strike me a having true feeling and emotion in it's performance but it almost completely describes my own personal love story... When I was seven years old, my family moved to a new city. I was brought to class on my first day In a new school, I was in second Grade and that's where I met her. After that moment, I couldn't look at or even think about any other girl. "A falling Star Fell from her Heart and Landed in My eye, I screamed allowed as it tore through them and now it's left me blind". It's been over twenty two years and we have yet to try our hand at a relationship, I have always loved her and she knows this but something as always held her back. I've tried to date and maintain relationships with other women but I've never been able to fully commit to them because she is always foremost on my mind. the reason is this, I've never learned how she truly feels. She won't tell me she loves me but she won't tell me that she doesn't love me, she always says "I think of you as a friend". Now, I'm one to pick apart wording and I've never asked he how she thought f me, wanted to know her feelings. But, as the song goes "The Stars, The moon, they have all blown out and she left me in the dark". I know that she cares and I know their is something there beyond a typical friendship but until I know what that is, I can't move on, "No Dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight in the shadow of her heart". Some years ago, I'd thought I'd lost her forever, "I could hear her heart Beat and I tried to find the sound But then it stopped and I was in the darkness so darkness I became". I was left bitter and alone, morning a love I wasn't even sure existed but after almost two years of silence between us, she found me again. Recently, something has changed. We've connected in a way that we never have before, we talk every night for hours, we discus everything from what we like in bed to what our lives together would be like. House, Furniture, kids, pets, Man Cave and this isn't all in good fun, it's real discussion. for the first time in over twenty two years of friendship, we are feeling each other out, exploring if this really does have the makings for something more. We are thirty years old now and I'll wait another twenty years if I have to. "I pulled the stars from my eyes and then I made a map, I knew that some how, I could find my way back, now I hear her heart beating, she's in the Darkness too. So, I'll stay in the darkness with her".

This love came upon her suddenly and intensely. When she was with him she felt out of this world, their souls were completely intertwined. He left her but the feelings were so ingrained into her core that she couldn't forget him. She feels like she's in a dream state constantly, living in the powerful aftermath. She makes up her mind to find her way back to sanity and finds that he feels the same. They may not be able to be together but they find comfort in knowing that their love for each other is the truest kind.

One year ago, the person I had fallen in love with, commited suicide.
It was such a dark love, a need, a dependance, that I didn't notice how deep I was sinking into this shadow called love, and I could only realize that I was there, once he left me all alone in the dark.
Did he drown in the darkness he had created, and pulled me in? I know the only way to hear his heartbeat again, would be in the verge of death. This body doesn't feel anything anymore, I can't go back, and even if I still live, this isn't life.
I just stayed in the darkness with him.

Obvious, the falling star is a demon who helped write this song. Falling stars fall from heaven like in the bible. She meets the devil and sells her soul whether consciously or unconsciously I don't know. She is blinded by the devil's deception. Lucifer is the rising sun, the devil, the morning star like in isaiah in the bible. He is dawn the bringer of light. Often understood to be venus.

I think yes, her & her partner were very much in love & then he did something 2 devastate her. The "falling" star that made her scream, ripped, left her blind. Then she felt his love leave her and left her alone, betrayal. "I made a map" eludes that she found her personal strength to bounce back & just as she was going 2 emerge from his grasp. She hears him again, & oh no! Decides to stay with him in his "darkness", maybe drug addiction or depression or just being in love with the wrong person. The one who is so bad for you. But you can't help it. You stay. So heart achingly beautiful.

I think that it means a girl was in love and her love one died and shes miserable and depressed and shes upset cause that person "left her in the dark" and she can't get over it so "she takes the stars from her eyes and made a map" to try to recover and understand that persons gone but she kills herself and "stays in the darkness with him/her"

Someone who tears you down. Tells you they need you to help them find their way. In the end all they want it to tear you down and control you, even after you leave them, they fin a way to cast a shadow, whether it is hurting your children, anyone oe anything you love. My ex. I am living this. A tortured existence, mainly because of my children and his deer ate need to hurt or control them if can't hurt me directly. He told me he would kill me if I took " his" kids. We are and have always been possessions, but object to inflict pain and control, presented with the face of " i need you, don't leave"

I think it means that she was with someone who lit up her world like the stars, moon and sun. The fallen star is a small piece of his heart that hurt her and left her blinded or confused and unaware of his feelings towards her. Maybe he broke her heart and so left her depressed. She took that piece and tried to understand and learn from what happened so she could go back to how she was before he broke her heart. But se sees he's broken so she stays broken hearted with him. No dawn, no day and stuck in this twilight because there's hope for recovery but she keeps going back to her sadness.

I got the feeling from the song that someone extremely close to her died unexpectedly - "the stars, the moon, they have all been blown out. You left me in the dark" - and it completely consumed her. The second verse of the song especially makes me believe this: "and in the dark, i can hear your heartbeat, i try to find the sound, but then it stopped, and i was in the darkness, so darkness i became. " "i'm always in this twilight, in the shadow of your heart," made me feel like she just can't get over this death and that it's left her hopelessly clinging onto the memory of this person. At the peak of the song I realized that she killed herself to be with this person: "then i heard your heart beating. You were in the darkness, too. So i stayed in the darkness with you. " she realized that she was spiritually dead, only physically living, and understood that her friend/boyfriend/family member was there too, and she couldn't bear to part from them again, so she decided to stay with her/him.
This. I agree with this, but there's more.
I took the stars from my eyes,.
And then I made a map,.
    I knew that some how,.
I could find my way back,.
Here she's talking about taking stars from her eyes, and at the start of the song she says.
    A fallen star,.
    Fell from your heart,.
    And landed in my eyes.
So the star is something that comes from that person's heart. I think she's reminding herself/telling us that even though someone may be gone, the feelings/memories you have from/with them are always going to be with you.

The song to me even that I don't rally believe in religion is about a fallen angel, about the forces between good and bad, like the roman/catholic tradition says that we are all brought as angels to this earth but some fall in temptation, so when this happens they loose their wings in the process and at the end can never go back to heaven and stay in the dark/hell, she falls in love with the devil, he tricks her pretending being someone that he's not and she falls hard for him so now she has to saty in the dark forever.

The Beauty of Art is in the Beholder. My fiancee had me listen to this song and it wasnt until I read the Lyrics on this page that I took meaning from it and I wept. Love and Grief are what I took away from this song. A Fallen Star is what any of us would call a Loved one who has died, or even left us, but you wouldnt call someone a star if they broke your heart willing, which leads me to believe she was in love and he died unexpectedly. What landed in her eyes were the tears and visions of love they shared. "I screamed aloud" were crys of angust one feels when a loved one leaves you, until you have cried and balled your eyes out that you physically can't see anymore and you are left "blind". "The Stars, the moon" being blown out represent our dreams and ambitions we share with our lovers and mates, when they are taken from us, we feel lost, in the "dark" and like we are living in a haze or "twilight" without a dawn or day as days blend with nights and you seem to walk around and function on auto-pilot. Until you sleep and your dreams take you to a place where your are reunited with your lover, your heart, and you can hear and feel their heartbeat. Then you awake from your dream only to find the heartbeat gone so you remain in the "darkness" or dreamscape and continue to walk around in a "twilight". "The Stars from my eyes" are memories and love we share and see in every that were once shared by lovers, until one day you "make a map" to either find solace or death and can finally move forward. At least that has how I would feel if my Judy was taken from me!

I think the song is about being consumed by love. She was caught off guard and as she says, now its left her blind. I think its about being so in love, not expecting the same in return and then in the end realising that the other person feels the same. She was searching for the same love and then she heard his heart beating, "you were in the darkness too, so i stayed in the darkness with you." they were there, together, all along.

The song is watever one makes it to be. It can be take n literal or it can be shamed down to non sense illuminati followings either way it is her song she knows what she meant and how she felt. Just listen and be appreciative that there is people like florence who can make music so deep that we spend time trying to figure it out when all she wants is for us to love them :)
