Human, as natural being, is self centered. This affects most of our thoughts and actions. Most "Christians" live their lives with great efforts and care to make heaven so as to escape the present and future sufferings.
The writer of this lovely song admonishes that the focus of Christians should be the Christ. It's not as much as what further we can get from Him than the glory of meeting Him face to face, being with Him, touching Him - The One who gave Himself for our salvation (all round salvation).
Heaven doesn't have the ability to make us righteous, Jesus does.
So it's Him we should look at - Heb 12:2.
It's the hope of seeing Him as He is and being like Him that makes us crave a life of purity here on earth - 1 John 3:2-3.
If there is no heaven, if there is no hell, I'll still love You Jesus for You love me more than I can ever do.

The meaning of the song is that we should not make the wonderful sites we would see in heaven the most paramount aim but meeting with our saviour, the one that paid the price for the salvation our souls. Imagine heaven without the gates of pearl, streets of gold or angels singing beautiful songs, heaven will still be alright as long as jesus is there! Enjoying the view isn't enough but to feel the warmth of his holy embrace, touch&see his lovely face! I will not be a castaway in jesus name! I wont miss out!

This song means that am not thinking about the site of heaven, if there is street of gold am do not really have much interest in that but as long as heaven is there and our lord christ jesus is also there am ok with that because heaven are for the people who serve christ in truth but not for the people who think there are gold and all precious thing in there. (so let of as serve the our god well and in truth so that heaven will be our potion in jesus name, amen.)
