Daughtry – 18 Years lyrics
[Verse:]
Sit down with an old friend
Like time it never stops
From the cradle to the coffin
We drink until we drop

[Verse:]
Yea, we grew up on the same street, small town under the hill
Yea
But dreams get lost and buried down deep inside the sun yea
Yea

(Pre-Chorus x2)
All day, all night
Keep pressing rewind
All day, all night
I remember

[Chorus:]
We were young, we were wild
We were halfway free
We were kids on the run on a dead-end street
But looking back in my rearview mirror
You know the view used to be much clearer
But we laugh and we cry til there’s no more tears
Yea tonight can we just hold on to those 18 years?
18 years

[Verse:]
Somewhere down the highway
Chase away the ghosts
‘Cause now we’re frozen in the same place
It’s time inside their bones

[Verse:]
Remember before were tv’s I be over fast on to the tracks
Yea
But trains roll on through the small towns and never look back
Yea

(Pre-Chorus x2)
All day, all night
Keep pressing rewind
All day, all night
I remember
All day, all night
Keep pressing rewind
All day, tell me do you remember?

[Chorus:]
We were young, we were wild
We were halfway free
We were kids on the run on a dead-end street
But looking back in my rearview mirror
You know the view used to be much clearer
But we laugh and we cry til there’s no more tears
Yea tonight can we just hold on to those 18 years?
18 years

[Bridge:]
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on? (to those 18 years)
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
18 years
18 years yea eh eh

[Verse:]
We were young, we were wild
We were halfway free
We were kids on the run on a dead-end street
We were building a bridge out of broken dreams
We were crashing like cars and we were 18

[Chorus:]
We were young, we were wild
We were halfway free
We were kids on the run on a dead-end street
But looking back in my rearview mirror
You know the view used to be much clearer
But we laugh and we cry til there’s no more tears
Yea tonight can we just hold on to those 18 years?
18 years

[Bridge:]
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
Can we just hold on?
18 years

    From songfacts.com:

This was inspired by one of Chris Daughtry's longtime best friends. He explained to The Hollywood Reporter: "He's a guy I grew up with, went to school with, lived with for a couple years. We were in my first band and he was the bass player. We kind of learned our instruments together. All the stuff that it talks about... we both worked at the saw mill with my dad. We did in fact throw a TV over the overpass. It was a tube television, just to see it explode on the railroad tracks. I don't endorse that behavior and no one was hurt in the process, but we did do it and I had to incorporate it. We had our first car wreck together. It was definitely the one that had to be the end of the record."
