It is the tragic song of the loss of innocence and chidlren leaving the family nest as tehy grow up, some in rebellion, others in their own good time. Taken at face value, it is the most tragic chidlren's story ever told, and even in its deeper sense, it is still sad but stirs the emotion the circle of life brings - it is part of life, nature and history that repeat themselves from generation to generation through the string of continuity that keeps the world alive and extinction at bay. It is nature's way of preserving itself and a species' instinct for survival. In the human race the emotional side of it stands out, but through the mist of tears it causes, the joy of new life it brings outdoes any pangs of sadness that come with it. May we continue to teach our children the right values that will make their futures fulfilling and an honour to our race. Such songs help to explain the importance of family life that our young may too, God willing, have families of their own in time.

My "What to Expect" newsletter said you should sing to your baby and suggested "Five Little Ducks." I couldn't believe I didn't remember the words! Here they are. Regan S. Hess will be glad to add another song to our repertoire - I think he's tired of "Ten Little Monkeys" and "There Were Ten in the Bed" and "Old McDonald Had a Farm" and "B-I-N-G-O" lol: D
