"Play With Fire" lyrics

"Play With Fire"

Well, you've got your diamonds and you've got your pretty clothes
And the chauffeur drives your cars
You let everybody know

But don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire

Your mother she's an heiress, owns a block in Saint John's Wood
And your father'd be there with her
If he only could

But don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire

Your old man took her diamonds and tiaras by the score
Now she gets her kicks in Stepney
Not in Knightsbridge anymore

So don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire

Now you've got some diamonds and you will have some others
But you'd better watch your step, girl
Or start living with your mother

So don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire
So don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire

"Play With Fire" had a working title "A Mess Of Fire".
Only two band members, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, are featured on this track. The other were sleeping after a long session. Producer Phil Spector was on bass, his assistant (Jack Nitzsche) played harpsichord, and a studio janitor sang back vocals.
This song wasn't included on the English version of "Out Of Our Heads" album, because it had already been released as a single, and in England it was usual not to include single releases on albums.
St. John's Wood mentioned in these lyrics is an area in London with some of the most expensive properties in the world.
This song was featured in the 2007 "The Darjeeling Limited" film.
